2020 Drag & Parts Unlimited Indian

Can one bike pull double duty for two brands? When it is as wild as the Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited Indian FTR 1200 flat track racer cover bike, yes! This stunning custom build captures powersports excitement and showcases the strong support Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited have for the industry. A lot of the credit for conceiving the concept of a dual-branded cover bike belongs to the folks at Drag Specialties! “They came up with the general idea and S&S drew up an initial rendering and between the two the overall design really came together nicely, filling everone’s needs!” says S&S VP of marketing David Zemla. The style of the FTR 1200 lends itself to being a dual- brand marketing platform. It has the American V-Twin engine and Indian name and heritage, combined with the hooligan/flat track look, style and performance that speak to Drag Specialties and Parts Unlimited powersports enthu- siasts. They all like torquey, fast and sleek race machines. The build was done in-house by S&S Cycles in Viola, Wisconsin. The bike has been modified in the “hooligan” or flat track style with a number of very special parts. Take a Indian FTR 1200 Custom Flat Track Bike close look: the triple clamps, gauge mount, gas tank, rear seat unit and swingarm are all S&S one-off pieces. “We were asked to do a very small batch of FTR 1200 bikes as hooligan racers,” Zemla says. “This bike has a lot of those pieces, making it one of a very few in the world.” One of the biggest changes is the side plates. “In order to get the foot controls positioned right for hooligan/flat track racing, you have to move them. Well, the footpeg and foot control mounts on the stocker are built into the side plates, so we machined new mounts in-house so we could get the pegs and controls set to the right positions. Each of those mounts takes something like two days to machine,” Zemla says with a chuckle. The split paint theme highlights the two brands. “When we first created the renderings for the paint, we knew the finished bike would look pretty wild.” The final paint was done by Artistimo Custom Design in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Their work really fine-tuned the original renderings into a stunning work of mechanical art. “The final paint work made it even more impressive,” Zemla says. “It is a really unique and beautiful bike.” FTR 1200 Supplied by Will Thomas, Integ Motorsports, East Peoria, IL.
